Social Security Disability (SSDI)

The Social Security Disability (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are federal programs that assist those who are unable to work a full-time job due to a physical or mental disability.

Social Security has a strict set of standards for who can receive disability benefits. Studies show that applicants filing with representation are more likely to receive benefits on time with the lowest chance of denial.

What is SSDI/SSD?

Social Security Disability (SSDI or SSD) is a federal program that provides financial support to individuals that become disabled and are unable to work. Monthly income and health care are provided to eligible recipients. The program is administered by the Social Security Administration and is funded by FICA payroll taxes collected from workers and employers.

Do I qualify for SSDI?

SSDI benefits are paid to disabled individuals and in some instances; benefits may be paid to eligible family members. SSDI is not a needs-based program, but rather depends on certain qualifications:

1. Do you have sufficient work credits?

•     Credits are earned when you pay FICA taxes

•     You likely qualify if you paid in 5 of the last ten years

2. Do you have a medical condition that prevents you from working a full-time job?

•     You must provide documented evidence of how your condition prevents specific work activities

•     An experienced professional can guide you through this part of the process

To learn more about qualifying for SSDI, please contact our office for a free evaluation.

What is SSI?

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a federal program designed to provide financial support to low-income people who are unable to work due to a disability.  This program is available for disabled individuals who do not have enough taxable earnings to qualify for the Social Security Disability (SSDI) program.  If you have worked at least five out of the last ten years and paid into the Social Security system, then you will want to pursue Social Security Disability (SSDI) benefits.

Do I qualify for SSI?

SSI benefits are paid to disabled individuals that do not qualify for SSDI.  You should consider applying if you meet these qualifications:

1.   Do you have a medical condition that prevents you from working?

•     You must provide documented evidence of how your condition prevents specific work activities
•     An experienced professional can guide you through this part of the process

2.   Do you meet the federal poverty guidelines?

•     You must have limited monthly household income
•     You can still apply for SSDI if you exceed the monthly household income limit

If you meet both qualifications, contact our office for a free evaluation to determine if you are entitled to SSI disability income. If you don’t meet federal poverty guidelines, you can still qualify for disability income through the SSDI Program.

Surviving Spouse/DWB Benefits

Surviving spouses and divorced surviving spouses can get Social Security disability benefits (SSDI) based on their deceased spouse’s work record. These benefits are called disabled widow(er)’s benefits (DWB).

To apply for DWB benefits, the surviving spouse or ex-spouse must be at least 50 years of age. To qualify for DWB benefits, you must prove that the onset of your disability is before age 60 AND no later than seven years after the deceased spouse’s death.

To learn more about qualifying for DWB, please contact our office for a free evaluation.

While you can file on your own, you should know that The Social Security Disability process can be long and complicated. Even just trying to find out what programs you might qualify for and which benefits you want to apply for can seem confusing. Any incorrect or missing information can affect whether you receive benefits, when you may receive your benefits, and how much of a back payment you may be eligible to get. The process can include completing up to 3 different applications, which totals more than 25 pages.

Bottom-line, you should get someone who is experienced to help you file your claim. You may risk losing $100,000’s in lifetime benefits. If you’re even just thinking about applying for social security disability benefits, you’re entitled to a 100% Free – No Obligation Evaluation to see if you may qualify for benefits. When you apply for social security disability, there’s nothing to lose by applying and everything to gain!

With our professional help we will make sure:

  1. We properly file for all the benefits that are rightfully yours.

  2. You get every dollar from benefits that you and your family are entitled to – not a penny less!

What is Social Security Disability and who can apply for disability benefits?

  • Social Security Disability is a Government insurance policy that we all pay for when social security taxes (FICA) are paid into the SSA or automatically deducted from our paychecks. It is not a handout, it’s your money and there for you when you need it.

  • Social Security Disability benefits are for people who suffer from a severe medical condition that prevents them from performing the work they’ve done over the past 15 years or adjusting to other work that exists in the national economy.

Why Use Taylormade Retirement & Disability Solutions to Apply for Disability?

Even if you’re hopeful that your condition will improve and you’ll be able to return to work, you can always get off disability and return to work when you are able.
